Mandatory Masks

OHHHHH MANNNN! My GF made a really good prime rib the other day. Medium rare the whole way through. She made up some nice potatoes and we've had three meals and going to get a lunch tomorrow from it.

It wasn't easy to get though. Soooo much crap being sold in the supermarkets right now. We got $50 in striploin and they were worse than a lower cut of sirloin. Was NOT amused.
Yeah it’s tough to find good product. You’ll have better luck in a butcher shop. Yes you may pay more, but you’ll enjoy your meal more. How many times have you been disappointed then threw away the shit piece of meat you bought. For an extra $1 or 2 you could have enjoyed the whole thing without waste.

One thing that needs to be mentioned about this (and I think I’ve spoken to it before)

Homemade masks are for source control. They do not filter really at all. The thought process behind them is to keep large droplets from spewing out of the mouth and nose when we speak. Sneezes or coughs will not be contained but larger droplets will. It’s not about the material being too porous to contain the virus. It’s not the virus it’s containing.... it’s the droplets that can brain the virus.

They are not personal protection. For personal protection you need to use a procedural mask ASTM level 2 or higher.

For PPE in places where aerosols May be generated from suspect or confirmed covid positive people are you need N95 or higher as this is still being considered a droplet and contact spread virus.

Source control is not the same as personal protection. Two very different things. This is where the confusion sets in for most and why it appeared to be mixed messages coming from the experts.

Saying that.... there is no objective proof that source control masking with cloth masks is effective.... it’s educated guessing at best.... at least for now.

I completely understand this.
My point is ok if I’m slobbering or spitting ya it will stop a small amount but most will get through especially in an aerosol event.
So why the fuck are we wearing stupid home made masks on a guess that they will somehow help.

Especially since people spend so much time touching them then touching other things. I personally feel that is more dangerous

Of you research the data from ICU units around the world and not believe the trash that they are spewing on media lately, you would realize that this virus is supermild, but spreads extremely fast. The exact same amount of people coukd have died over a year timeframe and nothing would have been said, but since it hits hard and fast, it scared everyone.

You can find this information in places like New England journal of medicine and such. Those are the only sources I really trust anymore.

CBC just posted an article the other day stating that we don’t make antibodies for this virus, they quoted a study, no link, quoted a doctor, no name. This was disproven about a month ago.

True but not true. We are also seeing a T-cell response that last longer than antibodies in COVID which Can mean we have another avenue of approach for a vaccine. This is good because many people have T-cell immunity from other forms of coronavirus.

The first study really didn’t say anything. They were all over the map and a really small sample size. Also wasn’t peer reviewed and when I read the original felt biased. A lot of studies out of China have been really looked down on because they are not peer reviewed and later found to be opposite by peer reviewed studies done in the UK or Australia.

Not not saying it may not be true, and if so the only path to herd immunity would be to open the flood gates then. Doing it in the way we are will immensely prolong this virus and in the process may kill more people, then letting it rip, considering that maybe some that barely survived the first infection may not survive the second.

I heard about the T cell theory.

Did you actually read the article and the links provided or just jump to China bad?
Herd immunity theory is working wonders in Sweden.

Because it makes people feel better.

I saw a woman yesterday put he mask in her mouth while she was getting out of her car with her purse lol!

blows my mind that people argue this.. its some of the most basic logic. Wondering if these people would be cool with getting operated on by a doctor if the doctor was like "hey man, this mask thing really infringes on my rights, you mind if I don't wear this during surgery on you?"

Little different when a dr who uses it properly and it’s medical grade vs some shmucks dishrag

It is up to me to teach those how to use the mask. Shmucks?

I mean the people that you see wearing them all over.
You know the ones who have it pulled down over their nose
The ones who constantly pull it up and down
The ones who are constantly touching their mask then picking up an orange or a loaf of bread at the grocery store

Costco is $39 for 50 surgical quality now which admittedly is out of range of some people despite not even being able to get into Costco.

What's been interesting to see is the multiple layer mask sewers as they've acted like wartime women have in the past (not meaning to be sexist on it just being women). Imagine WW1 and WW2 where women made all sorts of things like warm and cold weather clothing for the troops or for the men making heavier things for the troops. It's not really that far apart. The women always step up and help out however they can and I find that really cool.

Those ones at Costco are not surgical masks.

They are not for medical use and they do not meet any standard. Specifically the ASTM standards. For droplets, you need a type 2 or better.

Be careful what you speak of.

If you don’t know about things.... stop pretending you do. Passing on false information is not ok.

You can argue this with me, but you will lose.

...and they would be the ones I would try to educate on the proper use of a face covering. Everything comes down to education. This isn't the first time we have done this dance about masks and public health.

Can you imagine sending me out to work on an oil rig without training? Man, that would be disastrous.

Does Costco sell masks? I get mine from ex-wifey and Penetang. Long story there, man.

lol this is true

also unfortunately they are pretty much extinct these days. There are 17 rigs drilling in Canada. In the good days there used to be approximately 450 working. The attack and destruction of Canadian oil is almost complete

It sucks. An entire industry. I feel for you guys. It's a livelihood gone and that is never good.
